NEVADA -- A talented opponent is coming to town on Saturday to pay a visit to Cottey College.

The Comets will host the St. Louis Community College Archers at 1 p.m. in a women's basketball game.

Three of the community colleges in St. Louis have combined, with the Archers the end result. The last time the two schools met, St. Louis beat Cottey 68-48.

Cottey Coach Dave Ketterman said his team will definitely need to be ready to play on Saturday.

"St. Louis is really good," he said Wednesday night. "They have three perimeter players that are really good. They can take you off the dribble and they can shoot the three."

In particular, Datona Ball of St. Louis is a player to watch.

"She lit us up last time," Ketterman said. "I think she had 20 points by halftime last time. We should have bought tickets because we just watched her shoot it."

Now 6-9, the Comets are coming off a 56-52 loss to North Central on Wednesday.

Ketterman said he thought his team's defense was pretty good overall.

But in the end, the Comets fell short.

And coming close to a win doesn't satisfy Ketterman.

"I told the girls after the game I'm not into moral victories," he said. "This could have been a win. And we've had three of those lately. If we're going to turn the corner, we've got to have people start making plays. We don't have a big kid inside we can throw it to and who can go score. When you don't have that, you have to be creative. We have to have kids just make plays."

While Santana Cruz and Jordan Davidson have been solid throughout the season, Ketterman said he needs more production from many of his players.

"We've got to have some people who aren't making plays, step up and make plays," Ketterman said.

"I thought Blaklee (Sanders) played her tail off (Wednesday). She gave us everything she had. And Melanie Skaggs did a good job on their big kids. (Reanna) Henderson gave us some good minutes. But we've got some other people who have to step up."

Cottey has six more home games. Saturday's home game starts at 1 p.m. at Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
