WALKER -- Four seniors accounted for all but two points in Northeast Vernon County's 79-45 victory over Hume on Tuesday night in boys basketball action.
It was only fitting, as the Knights were celebrating Senior Night. Jacob Bell poured in 26 points, Tanner Stutzman had 22, Grant Davis added 18 and Cody DeOrnellis chipped in 11. All are seniors.
"I told them to spread the wealth tonight," NEVC Coach Brian Sprouse said of his seniors. "It's a lot tougher to guard four than just one. All four of them have been scoring in double figures lately, so that's what we wanted. We shared the ball pretty well."
The Hornets stayed close the entire first half. The game was tied at 10 after one quarter, and NEVC led 29-23 at the half.
But the Knights used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to pull away for good.
"It took us awhile to get going," Sprouse said. "Grant's going for his 1,500th point and the guys were really trying to get it to him. We finally got going and settled in. And I think we shot near 50 percent from the floor. I'm happy with the way we played."
NEVC used a 24-9 fourth quarter to finish off the Hornets. The four seniors scored a combined 77 points. The only other two points of the game for the Knights came from freshman Richard Lyness.
Jeremy Lewis scored 18 points and Bobby Berry added 10 for Hume.
