Committee prepares for this year's Bushwhacker Days events
The 48th Annual Bushwhacker Days celebration is scheduled for June 6-9 in Nevada, and planning is already under way to make this years' celebration one to remember.
Bushwhacker Days is an annual event that draws more than10, 000 people from the region in a four-day period.
It started with inspiration from Nevada's heritage as a Bushwhacker stronghold during the Civil War.
There are re-enactments by the Border Creek Raiders, an old-fashioned parade that includes horse drawn vehicles, and a carnival with rides galore to satisfy the thrill seeker in anyone! The 2012 Bushwhacker Days theme is "Looking back...Reaching Forward". This theme epitomizes Nevada's deep Southern roots and their strong vision of growth for the future. Nevadans are very proud of their heritage and are even prouder of the diverse community it has become since the Civil War.
This year there will be some new events taking place including an Antique Tractor Show.
The entertainment line-up is taking shape too, starting with Wednesday Night Gospel featuring some known Gospel bands, Thursday night Local Legends, Friday night's Texaco Country Showdown and Saturday night headliner being an artist from Nashville who's currently making great strides in the music industry and is also from Nevada: Marci Mitchell.
Bushwhacker Days booth spaces are filling up fast. If you would like a booth this year, please get your application in as soon as possible. Go to www.bwdays.com to download 2012 applications or pick one up at the Chamber of Commerce.
There are many sponsorship opportunities available, and being a sponsor at Bushwhacker Days is a great way to get your name in front of thousands of people over a very short period of time, according to event coordinators Frank and Pat Arnold. The Arnolds noted, too, that sponsorship donations also help determine what entertainment is provided during the concerts
The parade entries have started coming in already, with entries coming from all around the region.
All Bushwhacker Days activities, with the exception of the carnival, are free of charge and volunteers are still needed.
