Nevada man arrested for domestic assault
Nevada police report that they have concluded an investigation into a domestic assault that occurred on the 500 block of South Cedar Street on the afternoon of March 14. The investigation began when officers were dispatched to a domestic assault in progress with a handgun involved.
The investigation led to the arrest of Shane W. Abell, 40, of Nevada. A felony warrant for Abell was issued by the Vernon County Associate Circuit Court on the following charges: one count of the class C felony of domestic assault, second degree; one class C felony count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of the unclassified felony of armed criminal action.
The initial report to responding officers detailed both people involved had been drinking and the man was waving a gun around and making threats. After investigation at the scene, officers recovered and seized as evidence a handgun located in a box on the front lawn a few feet from the man.
Officers were able to secure all evidence pertinent to the crime, secure the scene and successfully arrest the suspect without further incident. The victim reported no physical injuries to the police. After his arrest, Abell was transported to the Vernon County jail.
Abell is free on bond and is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial conference on March 29.
