Nationals bound: NRTC DECA members excel at state conference

Sixteen students of the Nevada Regional Technical Center Chapter of Missouri DECA: An Association of Marketing Students joined more than 1,500 high school marketing students at the annual state career development conference, March 18-20, at the Lodge of the Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, Mo.
The nine students who placed first through fourth all qualify to compete at DECA's International Career Development Conference April 27-May 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah
Students receiving awards at the state level were:
* First place, Financial Literacy Promotion Plan: Alexa Cubbage, Taylor Norcross and Dominic Puller.
* Second place, Buying and Merchandising Operations Research: Hali Durnell and Megan Harper.
* Third place, Hospitality & Tourism Operations Research: Devin Miller, Myra Ornelas and Morgan Turner.
* Fourth place, Sports and Entertainment Marketing: Bailey Harbit.
* Lester B. Kesterson Scholarship, $1,000: Alexa Cubbage
Receiving medals for placing in the top eight of their event:
* Business Services Operations Research: Cassidy Hughes and Marisa Hughes.
* Sports and Entertainment Operations Research: Victoria Culbertson and Marissa Heard.
According to a press release, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA conferences are targeted, highly-focused learning experiences for students and advisors. DECA conferences bring members into the larger DECA community while providing unique opportunities to extend classroom learning.
