DECA program raises funds for conference

Thursday, April 12, 2012

The NRTC Marketing program and DECA chapter members are currently fundraising to send 9 DECA students to the upcoming International Career Development Conference April 27-May 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The top competitors in each event are recognized for their outstanding achievements. In addition to the competitive events, students and advisors participate in a variety of leadership activities; a trade show and the Diamond 5K Run/Walk to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Martha Cubbage, NRTC Marketing instructor and DECA advisor explained that a radiothon slated for today on KNEM/KNMO aims to help reinforce concepts.

The state of Missouri DECA Delegation is required to fly, travel and stay together for the entire conference. Total cost is $915 per student for a total student cost of $8,235. This includes conference registration, airfare, and lodging.

Money raised will be used toward conference expenses.

Other chapter fundraisers include a recent rummage sale, concessions, selling Otis Spunkmeyer frozen cookie dough through April 13, and a pulled pork dinner prior to the Male Handsome Pageant, April 20, in the NHS Commons, 5:30-7 p.m.
