NHS track team sees solid competition at Ray-Pec

RAYMORE-PECULIAR -- The Nevada High School track team competed at the Raymore-Peculiar Invitational on Friday.

The invite featured several solid teams according to NHS Coach Robert Watts.

Nevada senior Alex Bledsoe took third in the 400-meter run, finishing in 53.06. Bledsoe also finished 13th in the 800 (2:10).

In the sprints, Dalton Hendren finished fifth in the 100 (12.03) and Kyle Bennett was ninth in the 200 (24.10). Nevada's relay teams fared well. The 4x100 team finished fourth (47.08), while both the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams took seventh.

NHS junior Morgan Hold competed in the pole vault, but the event was called off due to a lack of light, so no points were given in the event. Watts said Hold had cleared 12-8 before the event was stopped.

Next, Ashley Shumaker was the top finisher for the NHS girls team at Ray-Pec. A junior, Shumaker finished third in the high jump by clearing 4-11. Shumaker finished ninth in the long jump (14-06.5), while Megan Mason was seventh in the triple jump (30-08).

Freshman Mikayla Hoselton took fourth in the discus with a toss of 99 feet. Bailey Jones was sixth (93-01) and Brooklyn Vincent finished 10th (82-08). Also a freshman, Vincent finished seventh in the shot put (32-09).

On the track, senior Rees Noble finished seventh in the 200 with a time of 28.39 and sophomore Kelsey McCall was ninth in the 100 (14.20).

The relay teams also fared well, as the 4x100 and 4x200 teams both finished sixth. The 4x400 relay team took ninth. Also, Caitlin Johnson was 10th in the 100 hurdles (19.13).

Rockhurst won the team title on the boys side, while Lee's Summit West won the girls title. Nevada's track team is at Fort Scott on Friday. Nevada will host a JV invite today.
