Lighthouse Gala to honor Nevada police chief
There's still time to reserve tickets for an evening filled with laughter, music and a meal provided by the catering team of Marie McCullough and Mike Turnbull at the Fourth Annual Lighthouse Gala, Saturday, at 6 p.m., at the El Dorado Springs First Baptist Church's Family LIfe Center the corner of South Main and West Joe Davis streets.
All proceeds benefit area youth ages 3-17. The Lighthouse Children's Theatre promotes self-confidence, personal esteem and poise through the performing arts programs of the 5-year-old, non-profit organization.
KY3 Sports Director Ned Reynolds will host this year, assisted by 2011 Miss Missouri Sydney Friar. They will be joined by musician, storyteller and entertainer Nick Sibley, who plays guitar and is a member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Sibley also is a native of El Dorado Springs.
A highlight of the evening will be a "Spotlight on Everyday Heroes" program during which six areas of community service will be honored. Among those are: teacher, community volunteer, community service personnel, volunteer fireman, veteran and law enforcement. The six individuals, exemplifying the qualities of what it takes to be considered an "Everyday Hero," were nominated to represent these occupations from Cedar and Vernon counties. One of the honorees will be Nevada Police Chief Graham Burnley.
