Rapp places second in the diversified crop production placement proficiency

Layne Rapp of Schell City, Mo., received the second-place Missouri FFA Diversified Crop Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 84th Missouri FFA Convention.

Rapp, a senior at Northeast Vernon County High School, is the son of Wade and Aylesa Rapp. He is a member of the Northeast Vernon County FFA Chapter. His chapter advisor is Courtney Poirot.

Rapp's Supervised Agricultural Experience Program consists of the preparation, planting, production, and harvesting of corn and soybeans. He helps work on machinery before harvest. In addition, he helps in the hayfields by raking, bailing, and hauling hay.

As an FFA member, Rapp has attended national and state FFA conventions, and exhibited at state and district fairs. He competed on parliamentary procedure, nursery-landscaping, and floriculture career development events. In addition to FFA, Rapp is active in National Honor Society and church youth group activities.

Rapp plans to begin a career as an auto guidance technician working with GPS.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural placement, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Diversified Crop Production Placement is one of 49 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Crop Improvement Association sponsored this award.
