Cottey softball team begins postseason today

The Cottey College softball team will begin play at the NJCAA Region 16 Division II Softball Tournament today at East Central College in Union.

The Comets will play Mineral Area College at 10 a.m. in a first round contest.

Mineral Area is the number-one seed, while Cottey is the four seed.

Shelli Stanley's Comets enter the postseason with a record of 2-16.

Second-seeded St. Louis takes on third-seeded East Central today at noon.

The winners of game one and game will meet at 4 p.m. in the winner's bracket.

The losers of the first two games will meet at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.

The region tournament will continue on Saturday for those teams still alive.

Games are scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon.

If necessary, another game could be played at 2 p.m.

The region 16 winner will advance to the national tournament in Clinton, Miss.
