Council to review equipment bids tonight
The Nevada City Council will be considering several bids and two requests for liquor licenses as well as several new ordinances during tonight's meeting at 7, in the council chambers in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash St.
The council will be considering bids for a mini-excavator to replace one of the two 1998 vintage backhoes that are used for the water and waste water maintenance. They will also be considering bids for a secondary odor scrubber recirculation pump and for fiber optic cable to upgrade the city's Internet bandwidth.
Other items on the agenda include a request from Joan Cash for the city to waive city license fees for people over age 65 making handicraft items for themselves to sell and for isolated or occasional sales of other personal property since the state of Missouri exempts those activities from the collection of state sales tax under certain circumstances.
The council also will be considering the first reading of a lease/financing agreement for the purchase of a John Deere mini-excavator and an agreement with American Fidelity Assurance Company to administer the city's flexible spending account.
Three resolutions are also on the agenda. Resolution No. 1342 would approve a liquor license for Cherry's Sports Pub & Grill, 903 E. Subway for liquor in excess of 5 percent alcohol. Resolution No. 1343 would approve a liquor license for the Fraternal Order of the Bears Lodge No. 2, 705 N. Osage Boulevard to sell intoxicating liquor in excess of 5 percent. Resolution No 1344 would authorize the city council to allocate money from the hotel-motel tax for a Indian Nation Pow- Wow this fall.
Other items on the agenda include the second readings or ordinances approving a change order to the city's contract with the city to install back-up generators at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center and the Neal Center; an ordinance updating the list of the city's boards in the city code; and an ordinance accepting right-of-way easements for the Elm Street sewer improvements.
The council also will be considering ordinances to rezone property southeast of Wal-Mart in the Eastview Heights addition from R-1, single family to C-3, commercial district; approve an investment policy for the city of Nevada and an ordinance authorizing a new five-year contract with JD Kehrman as city manager.
