Rain causes brief flooding
Tuesday, May 1, 2012
The Marmaton River breaches its banks and covers Minie Ball Rd. northwest of Nevada on Monday morning. Two days of constant rain had left rivers and creeks in the area running high and creating hazardous flood conditions in many low lying areas, even rising above portions of U.S. 71 north of Nevada and portions of U.S. 54 near Drywood Creek; but these reopened early Monday. Motorists should use caution when driving in flood prone areas and remember to never drive into moving water. The Missouri Department of Transportation has this simple recommendation: "Turn around, don't drown."
