The Nevada High School baseball team is the number-two seed at the Class 3, District 13 Tournament.
The Tigers will play seventh-seeded El Dorado Springs on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. in a first round contest at Clinton's Wagner Park.
"I'm pretty happy with being the two seed," Nevada Coach Marty Atnip said. "But it's going to be a tough district. There's some good teams there. I really think any of the top five seeds could win it."
Clinton (13-4) is the top seed, with Nevada (14-5) second and Holden (13-4) third. Warsaw (12-5) is the four-seed and Pleasant Hill (7-10) is seeded fifth. Knob Noster (7-12) is seeded sixth, with the Bulldogs (4-15) seventh.
Nevada finishes the regular season with four road games. The team will finish a suspended game at Seneca today before heading to Harrisonville on Monday and playing a doubleheader at Mac County on Tuesday. Nevada needs just one win to tie a school record for wins in a season. Two wins gives this year's team a new school record. Atnip said his team is well aware of the record.
"We did talk about it as a team," Atnip said. "It's a nice goal for us to try to reach. I think it's attainable."
Atnip added he just wants his team to be playing well as the postseason arrives. Of course, he'd love to see his team earn its place in history, too.
"We just need two wins. We have some opportunities next week. But we're looking for number 15 first. We'll take them one game at a time."
