The First Baptist Church of Nevada, Mo., announces the upcoming grand opening of First Baptist Church Preschool to be held in their new children's wing located on the main campus at 301 E. Highland Ave.

Registration is going on now for Tuesday through Thursday classes beginning this fall for children age 3 through pre-kindergarten. Lori Fast has accepted the position of lead teacher. Fast earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri at St. Louis and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from William Woods University in Fulton.

Fast is elementary and early childhood certified and has taught for the Nevada R-5 School District.

"The First Baptist Church is thrilled to provide a faith-based, quality preschool for the community," said Jeanette Hawkins, First Baptist Church's children's Pastor. She feels that Fast's philosophy compliments children's ministry department goals.

In a recent interview, Fast shared her philosophy, "As teachers we must reach our students in order to teach our students. I do this by giving lots of affirmation, attention and love. I truly enjoy creating a learning environment that connects students with their prior knowledge as well as providing hands- on and interactive lessons that capture the students' interest. I look forward to implementing a style of teaching that promotes Christ-centered characteristics and values as well as a well-rounded classroom learning experience that hits all developmental milestones."

Joni Pfeifer has accepted the position as teacher's assistant. Pfeifer is "a humble, caring individual who values young children," a news release said.

Qualifying factors for all First Baptist Church Preschool staff include being an active, growing Christian modeling Christian values, early childhood experience and a passion for seeing children develop, thrive and learn. Staff must also be certified in CPR and first aid.
