Sheldon, Rich Hill athletes advance to state track meet

HUMANSVILLE -- Sheldon and Rich Hill athletes competed at the Class 1, Sectional 2 Track Meet at Humansville on Saturday. The top four in each event advanced to the MSHSAA Class 1-1 State Track Championships. Both schools will be represented.

Sheldon results

Sheldon senior Tra Hart finished fourth in the boys 200-meter dash with a time of 23.6 and was his school's lone qualifier on the boys side.

Sheldon's Caitlin Claflin advanced to state in the girls 3200-meter run, finishing fourth with a time of 13:14, and teammate Chelsea Laning finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 30-7.25.

Rich Hill results

Rich Hill's boys 4x800 relay team of Jairus Beckett, Spencer Gould, Austin King and Logan Wheatley advanced to state with a fourth place finish. The Tigers crossed the line at 8:49. The Tigers will be sending two pole vaulters to state, as Wheatley finished second and Gould was third. Both cleared 12 feet.

The school's girls relays teams fared well. The 4x100 relay team of Hope Yarick, Traci Stevener, Whitli Thomas, and Jordann Wheatley took second (53.5), while the 4x200 relay team of Yarick, Marriah Seider, Stevener and Wheatley finished third (1:53). Rich Hill's 4x400 relay team of Ashley Breckenridge, Stevener, Wheatley and Yarick came in fourth (4:21). A freshman, Wheatley advanced in the girls pole vault by taking fourth. She cleared eight feet.

The Class 1-2 State Track Championships are Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Others fail to qualifying

Sheldon's Kasey Jones was fifth in the boys 1600 (4:51) and seventh in the 3200 (11:37), while Reed Worsley was seventh in the high jump (5-6). Christian Casey was eighth in the triple jump (35-06.5).

Rich Hill's Beckett was sixth in the 400, while the school's 4x400 relay team of Beckett, Wheatley, Gould, and Dustin Pritchett finished seventh (3:50). Jackson Duncan finished fifth in the triple jump (37-08.5). On the girls side, Hope Yarick was fifth in the 200 (27.8).
