Nevada baseball notebook: McKinley confident in Penn

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

The Nevada athletes playing for the Red Sox American Legion baseball teams this summer will have a new high school coach next spring. Danny Penn is taking over the Nevada High School baseball program. NHS Athletic Director Kevin McKinley said Penn was an obvious choice. McKinley added he feels Penn will do well.

"I've been teaching for 25 years and Danny is a Hall of Fame athlete and one of best student-athletes I ever had the pleasure of having in class," McKinley said. "I think every parent would want their son to grow up and be like Danny. I have the highest confidence in his ability to take over and run our baseball program. He's the most decorated baseball player in the history of NHS. And I think that says it all."

A 2003 graduate of NHS, Penn holds numerous school records in baseball and was an assistant coach this past season under Marty Atnip, who resigned for personal reasons. Penn is also a NHS Wall of Fame inductee.
