ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Nevada Griffons ran into the MINK League's hottest team on Friday night.

And unfortunately for the Griffons, the St. Joseph Mustangs showed no signs of cooling off.

St. Joe scored in nearly every inning and knocked off the Griffons 8-3 on Friday night at Phil Welch Stadium.

The Mustangs have now won 10 of their last 11 games and have the best record in the league at 21-8. Nevada falls to 17-14 in the league with the loss.

The Griffons are still in first place in the South Division, while the Mustangs are comfortably on top of the North.

On Friday night, the Mustangs jumped out in front by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning against Griffons starter Joey Parrack. St. Joe had two-straight hits, including an RBI triple from Will Mulligan, and then a groundout to go up 2-0.

St. Joe's Jordan Guida hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs added another run in the fifth.

Maxime Lefervre was hit by a pitch, stole second and went to third on an error by Parrack on a pickoff attempt. Kyle Simpson then singled and Lefervre scored, making it 4-0 in favor of the hosts.

The Griffons finally got going offensively in the top of the sixth.

Tyler Palmer hit a one-out single and then Patrick Kregeloh reached on an error.

Next, AJ Krist hit an RBI single, scoring Palmer, and cutting St. Joe's lead to 4-1.

Stuart Jeck followed with a single, making it 4-2. Jesse Solar drove in another run with a groundout, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 4-3.

The Griffons would not score again, though.

Nevada had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh, but failed to score.

The Mustangs added an insurance run in the bottom half on Mark Robinette's RBI single that gave St. Joe a 5-3 cushion. St. Joseph then scored a run in the eighth on a hit and two errors. That gave the Mustangs a 6-3 advantage. Later in the same inning, Jake Kretzer hit a two-run single for an 8-3 lead.

The score held up, as the Griffons failed to score late in the game.

Parrack took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs in four and two-thirds. Lucas Schiraldi, Jake Heissler and Matt Minnich also pitched for the Griffons.

Krist had two hits and an RBI for the Griffons.

The Griffons are home on Sunday night against Joplin at 7 p.m. It will be Community Service Night. There will also be a memorabilia auction.
