Bonnie D. Pope
Bonnie D. Pope, 85, Moundville, Mo., passed away Friday, July 13, 2012, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada. She was born March 26, 1927, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Richard Peterson and Hazel Swanson Peterson. She was married March 18, 1946, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Leonard P. Pope and he survives of the home.
Bonnie grew up in Cherokee and graduated from high school there. She came to Vernon County with her husband in 1960. She worked for the Nevada City Hospital for 18 years, in the delivery room, until her retirement. Bonnie was known for raising peacocks on their family farm.
In addition to her husband, Leonard, survivors include one daughter, Connie Newton, Nevada; two sons, Paul Pope and Rodney Pope, both of Moundville, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Amanda Davis, Eureka, Kan., Randi Brockmiller, Lamar, Mo., Sara Thompson, Nevada, Casey Newton, Nevada, Chris Newton, Nevada, Jenny Swopes, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Jill Kaemmerling, Nevada; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Nona Grohe and her husband, Gordon, Aurelia, Iowa; one brother, Jon Peterson and his wife, Rhonda, Cherokee, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Charlene Peterson, Aurelia, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Linda and Becky; one son-in-law, Sonny Newton; one grandson Jeff; and one brother, Donald Peterson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dederick, Mo.
Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and the family received friends at the funeral home Monday, July 16, between 7 and 8 p.m.
