NBC World Series begins

The 78th annual National Baseball Congess World Series in Wichita, Kan., began Saturday night with three games.
The Hutchinson (Kan.) Monarchs opened the tournament, beating the Davy Jones (Colo.) Cardinals, 6-3, followed by former the 2010 NBC World Series champion Liberal (Kan.) BeeJays winning 7-1 over the Omaha (Neb.) Strike Zone. The Haysville (Kan.) Heat narrowly defeated the Valley Center (Kan.) Diamond Dawgs, 4-3.
Sunday saw a full slate of games, starting with the end of the Davy Jones Cardinals trip to the NBC, who were eliminated by the Omaha Strike Zone, in 7-5 loss. In the 1 p.m. game, the Newton (Kan.) Rebels narrowly beat Impact Sports (Colo.), 7-6 and at 5, the MINK League champion St. Joseph Mustangs beat the Tulsa (Okla.) Cardinals, 8-4.
The Dodge City (Kan.) A's started the evening off winning the 7:30 game with the Arvada (Colo.) Colts, 8-1. The Tulsa (Okla.) Braves handed a 2-1 loss to the Kansas Cannons.
Monday, the Kansas Cannons eliminated the Tulsa Cardinals with an 11-4 loss.
The Plaza Tire (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) Capahas narrowly beat the Topeka (Kan.) Golden Giants, 1-0 in the 5 p.m. game.
Information on the games between the Hays (Kan.) Larks and the Greeley (Colo.) Grays and the El Dorado (Kan.) Broncos and the Katy (Texas) Collegians were not available at press time.
Tuesday will see the St. Joseph Mustangs take on the Tulsa Braves in their second round game at 5 p.m., and the Nevada Griffons open with a first round game at 10 p.m. with the Colorado Sox.
