Citizen tips lead to arrest of burglary suspect by Nevada police

Saturday, August 4, 2012

Thanks to a tip from residents, the Nevada Police Department has concluded an investigation into a burglary that resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Nevada resident.

At about 9:20 p.m. Aug. 2, residents reported to the police that they saw a man force his way into a home in the 1500 block of West Walnut Street in Nevada. Witnesses watched the burglar leave the residence with several items, including a big-screen TV. Within moments, the first officer arrived on the scene and observed the alleged burglar loading property into a maroon 2001 Kia SUV parked nearby.

The suspect, whose name has not been released pending a warrant application and formal charges, was arrested without incident near the burglary scene by Nevada police officers and is currently being held at the Vernon County Jail.

Nevada Police reported they recovered a significant amount of stolen property at the scene. Investigating officers also secured a search warrant for the suspect's home in the 1000 block of West Hunter Street, where officers recovered evidence of drug activity and other property believed to be stolen.

"We are very grateful for the swift actions of our good Nevada citizens who called police and aided authorities in this investigation," Nevada Police Chief Graham Burnley said. "Because of their concern for the welfare of other residents, police were able to recover and return valuable personal property to the victims."

Recovered property also included jewelry items, electronics, cameras and a bicycle.
