Lady Tiger golfers struggle at Carthage
CARTHAGE, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers golf team got the 2012 season under way Monday, taking on Carl Junction, Joplin, Seneca, Ozark, Springfield Parkview and the host school, Carthage, in the second annual Taco Town Carthage Invitational tournament at Carthage Municipal Golf Course.
As a team, the Lady Tigers took sixth of the eight full teams in the field -- two from Carthage and Joplin, one from Seneca, Ozark and Carl Junction -- with a combined score of 473 on the day. The Carthage blue squad took the team title in the tournament, finishing with a combined score of 365 and Parkview was unable to compete for the title as just two of the Lady Vikings golfers made the event.
Just one of Nevada's golfers was able to make the top 25 individually as Hannah Householder finished in a tie for 11th place with an overall score of 106. Maddie Johnson and Michael Jones tied for 27th with a final tally of 121, followed by Danielle Smith in 30th at 125 and Kaitlyn Richmond in 34th at 131. Samantha Stout of Joplin's maroon squad took the individual tournament title with a final total of 77, just three strokes ahead of Carthage's Abbey Catron, who finished the course in 80 strokes to take the second spot.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to be in action again on Friday, as they make their home debut in the Nevada Lady Tiger Invitational tournament, starting at 8:30 a.m.
