Lady Tigers softball takes second at Joplin
OPLIN, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers softball team finished second Saturday in the Joplin Invitational Tournament.
Head coach Tammy Holcomb's squad defeated Blue Springs, 3-1, in the Gold Bracket semifinals despite being out-hit, 8-4. Senior Christian Novak pitched a complete game for the Lady Tigers.
Columbia Rock Bridge defeated Webb City, 7-6, with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the other semifinal game and shut out Nevada, 4-0, in the championship game. Lady Bruins pitcher Breanna Logan held the Lady Tigers to just one hit in the contest. Novak pitched for Nevada, allowing five hits.
The Lady Tigers are 3-3 this season and were scheduled to visit Archie Monday for a varsity/junior-varsity doubleheader, starting at 4:30 p.m. Results from that contest were not available at press time.
The Lady Tigers are set to open the home schedule at Bushwhacker Field today, at 5 p.m., when they take on the Lady Indians of Seneca.
