Dinner, auction to benefit 3-year-old battling cancer
Nevada Daily Mail
Three-year-old Landan Mark Bland has been fighting for his life at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and the Nevada Eagles Lodge is hosting a benefit in September to help ease the family's financial burden as they focus on Landan's needs.
Landan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumor and a rare, amplified N-MYC gene according to information provided by the Eagles; and he underwent an emergency brain surgery on March 15. Medical resources say the N-MYC gene is associated with certain tumors. The original tumor was removed twice, but the condition spread to four new spots.
Radiation therapy followed, and he's currently receiving chemotherapy at St. Jude's.
The all-day benefit is scheduled Sept. 15, at the lodge, 3313 E. Austin Blvd., and features an 8 a.m. breakfast, followed by a pool tournament expected to last into the afternoon, and a 6 p.m. dinner. An auction will follow the dinner, with Monte Curtis of Curtis and Sons as auctioneer. Donations may be sent at any time to Landan Bland, in care of Larry Scism, 2664 E. Division, Nevada MO 64772.
