Cross country competes at Fort Scott

FORT SCOTT -- The Nevada High School cross country team got what is scheduled to be a very short season started Thursday as head coach Robert Watts' squad competed in the Fort Scott Invitational.
In the varsity boys' 5,000-meter race, Ben Sommer posted the best time for the Tigers as he took seventh in 19 minutes, 51 seconds. Dalton Shunkwiler finished 13th in 20: 21, while Max Daniel took 30th and Kirain Cain was 44th.
In the junior varsity girls' 4,000-meter race, Shayna Meisenheimer set the pass for Nevada as she took 18th, followed by Marissa Dunfield in 32nd and Brenna Morgan in 36th.
The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, as they head to Bolivar.
