The Nevada Police Department has made arrests connected to more than 24 reported thefts involving items taken from parked cars. The vast majority of these automobiles were unsecured and items of personal property were stolen. This investigation also determined that two male juveniles are responsible for the reported thefts of more than 30 bicycles over the last nine months.

With the help of concerned citizens who reported suspicious persons to police, officers developed information which led to the apprehension of the two male 15-year-old suspects. Both juveniles were taken into custody and are currently held in a juvenile facility awaiting further charges. Detective Sgt. Jeff Baker conducted interviews with the two Nevada residents, which led to the recovery of a significant amount of stolen property as well.

Nevada Police Chief Graham Burnley said, "Thanks to those Nevada residents who assisted the police in this case and helped make our city a safer place. The results in this case are outstanding and the success lies with good people being aware and reporting crime to the police. These cases are classic crimes of opportunity. We suggest that everyone lock their vehicles and take advantage of the free bike registration available at the Nevada Police Department."

Burnley also said he wanted to thank those citizens who have come forth and assisted in this investigation. Citizens are encouraged to contact the police if they have any information that would be helpful to combat crime.
