Headlined by Republican gubernatorial nominee Dave Spence of St. Louis, a "Meet the Candidates" dinner will be held tonight at Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center at 200 N. Ash St.

Secretary of state nominee Shane Schoeller of Willard and state senate candidate Ed Emery of Lamar will also address the crowd, said Vernon County Republican Chairman Jerry Wadel, who will ask all of his party's local nominees to stand.

The doors will open at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 6 and the candidates will begin speaking at 7. The meal will be $10, but there will be no charge for people who do not eat, Wadel said Thursday.

"I think all three candidates have a pretty good chance to win," he said. "How the vote goes for president will have some influence and I just heard that Mitt Romney is three points up in Missouri."

Spence will meet Gov. Jay Nixon in the Nov. 6 general election while Schoeller faces Democratic nominee Jason Kander; and Emery is opposed by Drexel Democrat Charlie Burton.

Local Republican candidates are also expected in contested races for sheriff, southern county commissioner and public administrator, Wadel said.
