Naomi June "Sug" Simmons
Naomi June "Sug" Simmons, 72, El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at her home, following a short illness. She was born in St. Clair County, Tiffin, Mo., to William Austin and Mariam Frances Culbertson on Aug. 27, 1940.
Naomi "Sug" married Earl Simmons on March 30, 1957. To this union five children were born, Terry, Harold, Connie, Carla, and Ronnie. They made their home in El Dorado Springs, Mo. Sug enjoyed playing softball, hunting, fishing, making jerky, attending ball games, playing bingo, and especially loved spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Mandy. She loved playing pitch at Joe and Yvonne's with Linda, Dean, Rick, Becky, Diane, and Patty. Naomi "Sug" Simmons was employed as a bus driver for the El Dorado Springs School District for more than 37 years, until she retired in 2011.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Earl Harold Simmons; father, William Austin Culbertson; and mother, Mariam Frances Gresham-Culbertson. Survivors include three sons, Terry Simmons and wife, Jeannie, Collins, Mo., Harold Simmons and wife, Traci, Joplin, Mo., Ronnie Simmons and wife, Sherri, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; two daughters, Connie Esry and husband, Kent, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Carla Luther and husband, Bill, Nevada; three sisters, Evelyn Bybee and husband, Bob, Yvonne Shearer and husband, Joe, and Linda Wright; two brothers, Leroy Culbertson and wife, Betty, Eugene Culbertson and wife, Joetta; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 26, at Church of God (Holiness), El Dorado Springs, and was officiated by the Rev. James Coleman. The musical selection included "Amazing Grace," "What a Day That Will Be," "Heaven's Just A Sin Away," "Another Place, Another Time," and "Silver Wings." Casketbearers were Terry Simmons, Colton Simmons, Harold R. Simmons, Tate Simmons, Ronnie Simmons, Kaiden Simmons, Randy Simmons, Waylon Simmons and Harold E. Simmons. Honorary casketbearers were Kent Esry, Dean Hamilton, Bill Luther, Kenny Hamilton, Brandon Esry, Alvin Hamilton, Joe Luther, Rick Jackson, Philip Thron, Drex Salazar and Billy Joe Richardson. Interment was in Love Cemetery, El Dorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Heartland Hospice, Relay for Life, or the El Dorado Springs Athletic Booster Club in care of Sheldon Funeral Home.
