The Nevada High School varsity boys' and girls basketball squads got back into action Thursday night in tournament play and came home with mixed results.

Head coach John McNeley's Tigers found themselves in another close contest at the Carthage Invitational against the Bulldogs of Springfield Central and ultimately fell by a final score of 52-50. Nathan Colopy and Jamin Brandt each finished the night with a double-double as Colopy had a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Brandt finished with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Things went much better for Nevada in pool play of the Carl Junction Lady Bulldog tournament as head coach Brent Bartlett's Lady Tigers took on Liberal. The Lady Tigers held a 26-15 halftime lead and hung on to take the victory by the final score of 59-39.

With their loss, McNeley's Tigers fell to 0-2 on the year and are set to take on Monett in the seventh-place game of the 66th annual Carthage Invitational, which is scheduled for noon on Saturday, at Carthage High School.

Bartlett's Lady Tigers are scheduled to continue pool play tonight, when they take on Carthage at 7:30 p.m., at Carl Junction High School. The winner of that contest will move on to play the first-place team from Pool 1 at 3 p.m., Saturday, while the loser place the Pool 1 second-place finisher at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, at Carl Junction High School.
