Tiger grapplers fare well at Pleasant Hill

PLEASANT HILL, Mo. -- One individual championship and two runner-up finishes led the Nevada Tigers wrestling team to a ninth-place finish as a team in the Steve Leslie Invitational Friday and Saturday at Pleasant Hill High School.
Smithville won the team title with 664 points and Lee's Summit West was second with 630. The Tigers finished half a point ahead of 10th-place Carl Junction with 364.5 points.
Senior Slade Stiles won the gold medal at 120 pounds with eight wins -- six by pin, one by tech fall and one by injury default. Freshman Dayton Miller took second at 106 with an overall record of 7-1 after a 6-3 loss to LaCygne-Prairie View's Case Pemberton in the finals and Colby Smith went 6-2 to take second at 220 after a 10-1 setback at the hands of Boonville's Kyle Smith in the finals.
Dalton Shunkwiler took sixth at 152 pounds, while Daxtyn Osburn finished seventh at 138. True Beisly and Tucker Wingert each finished 10th at 145 and 285 pounds, respectively, while Colton McDowell took 12th at 132 and Connor West rounded out the order for Nevada with a 13th-place showing at 160.
Head coach Devin White's squad is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, taking on Bolivar in the first road dual of the season.
