Carthage Invitational concludes

CARTHAGE, Mo. -- Senior Silas Smith scored a career-high 36 points to lead the Nevada Tigers to a 55-43 win over Monett Saturday afternoon in the seventh-place game of the 66th annual Carthage Invitational Tournament at Carthage High School.
The victory was Nevada's first of the new season in three games while the Cubs are 0-3. Smith's 36 points included five 3-point baskets and an 11-for-13 performance at the free throw line.
Lane Ketterman joined Smith in double figures with 10 points, while Kyle Woods led Monett with 23. The Tigers had one-point leads at the end of each of the first three quarters before outscoring the Cubs, 21-10, during the final 8 minutes of the contest.
The Tigers are scheduled to open their home schedule tonight, when Carl Junction visits the Wynn Gymnasium for a varsity boys and girls doubleheader.
The top-seeded Carl Junction Bulldogs defeated Joplin, 73-58, in the tournament championship game, while Heritage edged Carthage, 47-46, for third place and Seneca defeated Springfield Central by a final score of 60-47 in the fifth-place game.
