"It's harder than I thought it would be," Doug Harper said Thursday afternoon while talking about having his portrait painted by Andrew McNair at the Art Shop, 104 E. Cherry. Harper said that he is coming up on his 20th anniversary as a musician and McNair wanted to do a large painting. "I wanted something cool for the anniversary," he said.
So, he said they have " an artist showcasing an artist." He added, "This painting will be around longer than me. In 50 or 60 years, I hope it will take on a life of its own, as 'The Waiting Man.' It shows the patience you have to have in the arts." "I hope it will inspire other people to have a portrait painted. Maybe of their family," he said.
Harper said a lot of people have been interested in seeing him have his portrait painted while sitting in the window of the Art Shop. "A little girl stood out there for 20 minutes watching."
