Lady Tigers take fifth at Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Nevada's girls' swim team placed fifth in the Joplin Girls' Invitational Friday at Missouri Southern University and also competed in the Springfield Girls' All Relays at Parkview last week.

Nevada finished with 134 points, behind Nixa with 310, Carthage at 300, Joplin at 189 and Lamar at 176. Seymour followed at 105 and Hillcrest at 25.

Nevada was missing some of its team members, including Grace Reichard, a two-time state qualifier, who was taking the ACT.

According to results furnished by the Joplin Globe, Nevada finished sixth in the 200-meter medley relay in 2:35.15, and also had a second team compete, with a 12th-place time of 3:43. Nixa took first in 2:20.61.

In the 200-meter freestyle, Tayrin Schmitt took third in 2:36.96 behind Nixa's Elle Moon at 2:19.41. Elizabeth Prewitt was 11th in 3:08.99.

In the 200-meter individual medley, Morgan Ernsbarger was fifth in 3:09.42, with teammate Tayler Matthews 11th in 4:22.69. The winning time was turned in by Mercy Housh, Carthage, in 2:36.62.

In the 50-meter freestyle, Abbie Landoll was seventh for Nevada in 32.90, with Paige Hill of Nixa taking first in 30.50.

In the 100-meter butterfly, Tayler Matthews was sixth for the Tigers in 2:06.21. Kate Stauffer of Joplin won in 1:13.95.

In the 100-meter freestyle, Landoll was fifth in 1:19.63, behind Anna Brinck of Nixa in 1:04.03.

In the 400 free, Elizabeth Prewitt took fourth in 6:29.03, with Maris Moon of Nixa in first in 5:02.83.

In the 200-meter freestyle relay, Nevada took fourth in 2:15.08, behind Carthage's winning time of 2:08.28.

In the 100-meter backstroke, Morgan Ernsbarger was sixth for the Tigers in 1:29.21. Nixa's Elle Moon was first in 1:14.72.

In the 100-meter breaststroke, Schmitt took fifth in 1:33.18, with Stauffer taking first for Joplin in 1:21.87.

Springfield Girls' All-Relays

Nevada won the women's 200-yard backstroke relay in a time of 2:15.44 to highlight the Tigers' performance at Parkview.

The A team took fifth in the 200-yard free relay in 1:55.73.

The Tigers garnered a third place in the 100-yard underwater relay in 1:07.50 with the B relay team turning in a 1:50.07 time.

The A team swam a 4:13.73 in the 300-yard free relay for 16th.

In the 200-yard medley, the Tigers' A relay team was fifth in 2:10.38.

Among the teams competing were Kickapoo, Central, Webb City, Glendale, Marshfield, Nixa, Ozark, Hillcrest, Lamar, Lamar-Rogers, Parkview, Smith-Cotton, Carthage, Joplin, Seymour, Central, and Greenwood.

Nevada will compete at Webb City today, with the hosts, Kickapoo, Marshfield and Joplin at 4:30 p.m.
