Reichard wins Iron Woman Award

CARTHAGE, Mo. -- Nevada's Grace Reichard was nearly four seconds better than everybody else Monday at the Carthage High School Iron Woman Pentathlon at the Fair Acres Family YMCA.
Reichard posted a total time of 5 minutes, 16.62 seconds to win the Iron Woman Award, figured by combining times from each of Monday's five 100-yard events: the individual medley, butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
Reichard finished the IM in 1:02.00, the fly in 1:04.04, the free in 55.48, the back in 1:03.20 and the breaststroke in 1:11.90. She won every event except the butterfly, in which she placed second.
Glendale's Macie Beairsto finished second in the Iron Woman standings with a combined time of 5:20.03, while two other athletes from Glendale and swimmers from Joplin and Carthage rounded out the top five.
Results for Nevada:
Melody Reichard finished 25th in the individual medley with a time of 1:20.22, and Marissa Dreyer took 28th in 1:20.97. Lauren Watts finished 51st, Kaitlyn Richmond finished 54th and Tayler Matthews placed 58th.
Matthews finished 52nd in the butterfly, Watts finished 54th.
Tayrin Schmitt posted a time of 1:02.53 to place 16th in the freestyle. Melody Reichard took 36th, Dreyer earned 43rd, Melissa Mosbrucker finished 58th, Lauren Watts took 63rd, Matthews finished 70th, Richmond placed 73rd, Cheryl Odinga placed 74th, Maddie Hedges earned 77th and Tracy Helms finished in 79th.
Melody Reichard's time of 1:18.55 was good for 21st place in the backstroke. Dreyer took 33rd, Mosbrucker finished 43rd, Watts finished 56th, Richmond took 59th, Matthews was 66th, Makayla Charles placed 68th and Helms placed 69th.
Tayrin Schmitt's time of 1:21.80 earned her seventh place in the breaststroke, while Dreyer finished 24th in 1:31.82 and Melody Reichard finished 28th in 1:32.91. Richmond finished 53rd, Mosbrucker placed 59th and Matthews finished 61st.
