Michael Felix Buchanan
Michael Felix Buchanan was born Jan. 6, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo., and departed this life Dec. 31, 2012, in Richland, Mo. He was the son of Robert Roy and Jun E. Cave Buchanan who preceded him in death.
Michael attended school in Springfield, Mo., and Kansas City, Mo., graduating from Paseo High School in 1962. He graduated in 1966 from Drury College earning an A.B. in biology, and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. He was united in marriage to Florence Warren Buchanan in 1968. To this union were born three children Sarah M, Carrie F. and F. June Buchanan.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, and children, Dr. Sarah M. Buchanan (John Hicklin) Osage Beach, Mo., Dr. Carrie F. Buchanan Lee (David), Springfield, Mo., and Ms. F. June Buchanan Snowden (Steven) Austin, Texas; three grandchildren; brother-in-law, Henry E. Warren; and several cousins and their families.
Michael established Countryside Animal Hospital in Nevada, Mo., in 1975 and practiced veterinary medicine there until 1993. He then moved his practice to Hollister, Mo., and practiced there until 2000, when he retired. He was Past Master of Osage Lodge, AF & AM Nevada, Mo., Past Patron of Nevada Chapter No. 53 Order of the Eastern Star, and father advisor to the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Nevada Assembly. He belonged to several York Rite bodies and the Scottish Rite of Fort Scott, Kan. Michael was an active member of the United Methodist Churches in Nevada, Branson and Richland.
Memorial services will be at Wesley United Methodist Church, Springfield, Mo., at 10:30 a.m., today, Jan. 12.
Graveside memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m., at Oaklawn Cemetery Richland, Mo., today, Jan. 12.
