Tommy "Tom" Claspill
Tom Claspill, 71, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Montevallo, Mo., to Roy Allen Claspill and Amanda Lucille Davis Claspill. He married Sarah A. Scott on Aug. 11, 1968, in Nevada and she survives of the home.
Tom graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1959 and attended Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield on a football scholarship. He later received a degree in criminal justice from Missouri Southern College in Joplin and worked for the Nevada Police Department for several years. Tom worked for the Kansas City Chiefs as security supervisor. He then worked at various offices throughout the state for Employment Security Services until his retirement in 1988 due to health reasons. Tom also worked for several years for Ferry Funeral Home. Tom was a member of the Nevada Assembly of God Church and the Masonic Lodge of Montevallo.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Sarah, include his son, Brandon Claspill and his wife, Michaela, of Nevada; two granddaughters, Emma and Olivia; three brothers, Carol Claspill of Nevada, Darrell Claspill and his wife, Doris, of Clinton, Mo., and Ron Claspill of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Sandra Foreman and her husband, Bill, of Harrisonville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Loretta Claspill; and an infant brother, Lyle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dennis Painter officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now until the hour of service and the family receives friends 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Contributions may be made to the Nevada Regional Medical Center Hospice or the Vernon County Ambulance District "Toy Drive".
