So this is what they've been talking about

Hi neighbors. What a week! I guess Mother Nature decided to dump everything on us at once. Others had snow and we did not. Others had sleet and we did not. Others had freezing rain and we did not. Then we got ALL of that in one shot!

I hope all of you got through Thursday and Friday without incident. It was a good way to END winter (and I hope Mother Nature is listening.)

I'm writing this on Thursday morning and am wondering how I'll get to work. Driving myself doesn't seem like an option. The taxicabs might be running, but I don't know that yet. I have a friend with a four-wheel drive who said she would have her husband drive her to work today and would be glad to stop by and get me. I hate relying on friends to go out of their way on days when just going their normal route seems above and beyond. Maybe the cab company will be running and I can go with them and save my friend some worry. It's nice to have friends who make such generous offers and if the cab company isn't working I'll have to take her up on her offer.

Then my only worry will be getting from my front door to the street without falling down. When the sleet stops I'll try to venture out and see how slick the sidewalk is. Oh well, one or two days of this should be enough don't you agree? Then we can get back to those 50 degree days we've been enjoying off and on all winter.

On a brighter note, it won't be too long before we can start planning our gardens. Some people go all vegetables, others all flowers in their gardens. I think a combination is good. Some flowers even help deter certain bugs that feed on vegetables.

There are two or three garden pests that nothing seems to deter. White tail deer will eat almost any green shoots in the early spring. If you get past them and actually see a harvest, you have box turtles eating your tomatoes and raccoons eating your corn. I guess you should plant enough to have some to share -- and hope the critters leave you enough harvest for your own needs.

This will be short this week as I have to check on my sidewalk and prepare for work. I can't write this after work as I may not get home till way past deadline.

Until the next time friends, remember, stay safe, think smart and be grateful for the kindness of friends.
