District basketball tournaments begin

CARTHAGE -- The Class 4, District 12 girls' basketball tournament opened Monday, at Carthage High School.

The Lady Bulldogs of Carl Junction opened the tournament against McDonald County in the first game of the night and Carthage took on Monett in the late game. Top-seeded Webb City and second-seeded Nevada drew first-round byes and will play the winners of Monday night's games in the semifinals Thursday evening, weather permitting.

The Nevada Tigers were awarded the top seed in the boys' tournament and are to play in the semifinals Thursday. The boys' first- round games are scheduled for tonight, weather permitting.
