Elementary combines art show with reading

Hundreds of parents and their children made art projects and picked out a book Monday night at the annual Bryan Elementary School Art Fair.

This year Bryan principal Debbie Spaur said the school combined its art fair with a reading program, so in addition to art projects, teachers were giving out free books and cookies to the children.

Alice Weber, Nevada R-5 elementary art teacher, said that this year she added a reading component to the art show by having the reading of a poem tied to each project the kids and their parents made.

She said that all of the art projects displayed by the children were judged, with each receiving a first, second or third place. No best of show award was presented.

Several Cottey College students helped with the art fair with a project for children to make a crown from a newspaper.

The school also held its annual scavenger hunt with parents and children looking for famous paintings scattered around the school.
