Student wins Area 9 proficiency awards

Northeast Vernon County FFA member Erin Kitts-miller won the Area 9 Proficiency Award in Swine Placement, during a recent competition. She will now move on to compete at the state level.

The Agricultural Pro-ficiency Award honors FFA members who, through their Supervised Agricultural Experience have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers, according to a news release.

Students may compete for awards in 49 areas covering everything from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Each award area has two categories -- placement and entrepreneurship.

Placement proficiency awards are given to those whose SAE is related to employment, apprenticeships, or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization.

Entrepreneurship proficiency awards are given to those whose SAE is related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization.

Proficiency awards are given out at the local, state and national levels.
