Childhood screenings herald new school year

The Nevada R-5 School District is hosting a number of early childhood screenings for the next school year.
If you have a child who will be 5 on or before July 31, 2013, you are invited to the Parent Information Night for Kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year at Bryan Elementary Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m. on west Lee.
P.I.N.K. will provide parents with information regarding enrollment, screening, kindergarten goals and objectives, immunization requirements, handwriting goals and bus rules.
Parents are encouraged to bring their "kindergartner-to-be" as the children will visit the classrooms and take a school bus ride while parents are attending the orientation meeting.
Parents who can't attend can pick up packets at the school March 26 or after but the packets must be filled out and returned to Bryan School for enrollment between March 26 and March 29.
For information, call the school at 448-2060.
Preschool screenings are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 2-4, at the First Baptist Church at 301 E. Highland and will take about two hours.
Appointment times available Tuesday and Thursday are 8, 9:30, noon, 1:30 and 3:30. Wednesday, the last appointment will be at 1:30.
Preschool screenings for children ages 3 to 5 but not entering kindergarten coordinated by the Parents as Teachers Center will be Tuesday, March 26 to Friday, March 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This screening is a prerequisite for children whose parents wish them to be considered for participation in any preschool or preschool peer model program in the Nevada schools.
For information on this, call 448-2061.
Each child will be assessed individually in the areas of cognitive, motor, social, and speech/language skills, as well as general health including vision and hearing.
All Nevada R-5 parents with children from 3 through 5 years of age are encouraged to participate in the free screening.
