Early Friday morning several members of the Gamma Mu chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi service sorority delivered 15 Easter baskets to Moss House, a local shelter for victims of domestic violence.

The baskets will be given to the children in the shelter on Easter morning.

The colorful baskets contained lots of goodies as well as some other things. All of them had a green plastic Easter egg that had money in it. There were other eggs filled with candy but also juices and other things. All baskets included coloring books and crayons.

The sorority has 16 local members and has been doing the basket give away for well over 10 years according to members. Judy Jenkins said that "every one of our sisters bring something and we buy the baskets." The group does several fundraising events in the city each year and "everything we raise we give away," said member April Jacobs.

The chapter held its annual auction at Daylight Donuts on Saturday. After eating dinner together with several guests that attended, auctioneer C.D. Scotten started the sale. Several items were sold including Longaberger baskets, Country Home decor, Tupperware, jewelry, homemade crafts and baked goods, lots of Easter decor and several other items were auctioned off. Members also brought Easter items to make the Easter baskets donated to the Moss House.

The auction is the main fundraiser the sorority does each year. The Gamma Mu chapter is dedicated to helping community efforts in a variety of service projects, including Habitat for Humanity, school reading carnivals, developmentally disabled dances, blood drives, Project Prom, adopting families in crisis for the holidays, Boy Scouts, families in need during disasters and the McGinnis Youth Camp just to name a few.

The money that is raised is distributed to many projects throughout the year and all money is used in the Nevada/Vernon county area. This year's auction proved, once again, to be very successful. The organization thanks all who donated and purchased items for the kindness and support. The sorority also extends a special thank you to auctioneer C.D. Scotten and to Daylight Donuts for allowing it to have its auction at their establishment and for feeding them. Beta Sigma Phi will hold their spring banquet April 3 at the Nevada Country Club and it will be hosted by the Laurette Chapter.
