Townships elect board members

Townships in Vernon County saw two races in Tuesday's municipal, school board and township elections, and both of the races were for seats on the township boards.

In Metz Township, Tom Charles and Arch Forkner, of Richards, won the two open spots on the township board, while James D Corl of Rich Hill was third. Charles garnered 26 votes (26 percent, while Forkner had 13 votes (26 percent). Corl finished with 11 votes (22 percent).

Also in Metz, Bill Handley ran unopposed for trustee, although an unnamed write-in candidate received one vote.

Georgia Charles of Richards ran unopposed for township clerk.

In Coal Township, Russell Johnson and Phillip Thron, both of Deerfield, took the two open slots on the township board. Johnson won 19 votes (39.58 percent) to Thron's 16 votes (33.33 percent). Jack Brock of Deerfield was third with 13 votes (27.08 percent).

Ronald Wolf of Deerfield was unopposed for township trustee, but a write-in candidate got 2 votes.

Glenda Wolf was unopposed for township clerk, but 1 vote went to an unnamed write in candidate.
