Missouri state high school baseball rankings announced

Saturday, April 6, 2013

The Missouri State High School Baseball Coaches' Association has released its first in-season rankings for the 2013 baseball season.

Head coach Danny Penn's Nevada Tigers didn't quite make the cut, but did appear on the list of schools that received votes, along with Sullivan. The Tigers were ranked ninth in the preseason poll, which came on the heels of the Tigers' best season in program history in which Penn's squad broke the school record for wins and finished with an overall record of 16-9, beating the old school wins record by one.

Westminster Christian topped the poll in Class 4, followed by Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau), Logan-Rogersville, Oak Grove and Festus. Lutheran South came in sixth in the poll, followed by St. Dominic, Borgia, Mount Vernon and Monett.

The Tigers are currently 4-1 on the season and were set to take on Carthage -- the ninth-ranked team in Class 5 -- on Saturday, for the championship in the Bill O'Dell Tournament in a rematch of a game that was won by Carthage on March 28.

The next set of rankings is set for release by the MHSBCA on April 12.
