Nevada Tigers baseball falls in tournament play
FORSYTH -- The Indians of Strafford High School limited the Nevada Tigers to five hits and posted a 4-1 victory Tuesday evening in the semifinals of the 16th annual Forsyth Baseball Tournament.
"Offensively, we had trouble making adjustments against their pitcher," Tigers head coach Danny Penn said. We were getting jammed a lot and were slow to adjust. It's a frustrating loss because I know we're capable of playing much better.
Cole Sanderson was 3-for-4 and Easton Mitchell was 2-for-3 for the Tigers in the loss. Taylor Manes got the start on the mound and took the loss for the Tigers, allowing three runs -- two earned with three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
"Taylor had trouble keeping the ball down and they hit some balls hard in the gaps off of him," Penn said.
Grant Wolfe finished the game for Nevada, allowing just one earned run on one hit with four walks and seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
"Grant Wolfe threw the best he has all season," Tigers head coach Danny Penn said. "(I) hope he's able to build off of this outing as we head into districts.
"(It) will be a great strength for us having Cole, Easton, and Grant throwing well."
The Tigers were scheduled to be back in action Wednesday, taking on Aurora in the tournament's third-place game. Aurora lost to the host Panthers of Forsyth High School by a final score of 7-0, in Tuesday's other semifinal contest.
Results from Wednesday's games were not available at press time.
