Neptunes take second at Webb City
The Nevada Neptunes finished second in the Tri-State Invitational over the weekend at Webb City.
Webb City ran away with the team title with 605 points and the Neptunes were second with 294. The Carthage Aquatic Team finished third with 261.5 points, the CSRC Stingrays finished fourth with 180 and Lamar's Tiger Sharks were fifth in the 12-team field with 161.5.
Neptunes swimmers winning gold medals included Jake Asberry and Mikayla Mohrman in the 50-yard butterfly events, Dalton Eador in the 100-yard freestyle, Jesse Claypool in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle relay team of Gage Miller, Avian West, Johnnie Bruce and Cody Leung. Neptunes earning silver medals included Claypool in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, Grant Miller in the 100-yard individual medley and Jessica Zamora in the 200-yard individual medley.
Six Nevada relay teams brought home silver medals -- Ashton Eador, Zamora, Mohrman and Paige Webb in the 200-yard medley; Jesse Claypool, Eador, Asberry and Thomas Prewitt in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle; Anna Fulton, Peyton Claypool, Carlie McCaffree and Sophie Wehrman in the 200 freestyle; Grant Miller, Tretin Rainey, Gavin Urquidez and Kalen Morris in the 200 freestyle; and Cailin Hollands, Bridget Naas, Chloe Morris and Franki Fine in the 100 freestyle.
The Neptunes boast a record roster of 105 swimmers this summer. Practices begin this week at the Walton Family Aquatics Center in Izaak Walton Park and the next meet is this coming Saturday and Sunday, in the Hammons Student Center Pool, on the campus of Missouri State University, in Springfield.
