Norvin Glenn Schenker
Norvin Glenn Schenker, 86, son of John F. and Clara A. (Fischer) Schenker, born Sept. 7, 1926, in Butler, Mo., departed this life at Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, Mo., surrounded by his family on June 18, 2013. On June 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Ruby Lee Harkrader at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. George Jagels.
Norvin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City. He was baptized Oct. 3, 1926, and confirmed March 17, 1940. He chose for his confirmation verse Proverbs 23:26, "My son, give me thy heart." He was a member of Zion's Men's Club and Voters Assembly, holding many offices in the organizations as long as his health permitted. Norvin served Zion as an officer in nearly every capacity available: last position Cemetery Sexton, an Adult Bible class leader, a member of Zion's 100th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and Couples Club.
He and his family were very active members of the Busy Beavers 4-H Club, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Missouri Guernsey Breeders, Guernsey Breeders of America Associations and served on the Board for Mid-American Dairymen. In 1971, the family was selected to represent Bates County at the Missouri State Fair as Bates County's Farm Family.
His hobbies included fishing and gardening. He delighted in the accomplishments and travels of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Norvin was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, John and Clara Schenker; wife, Ruby; and brothers-in-law, Paul Elliott and Edward Harkrader.
He is survived by three daughters and one son, Patricia Tippie (Dwayne), rural Rockville, Juanita Cragin (Mike), Nevada, Glenda Smith (Steven), St. Louis and Lyle Schenker (Peggy), Prairie City; one sister, Ruby Elliott, Olathe, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Lorna Mae Harkrader, Papinville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Barbara Tippie Sechler (Steven), Karen Tippie, John Tippie (Mary), John, William and George Cragin, Renae Smith Reynolds (Michael), Nolan Smith, Scott Schenker (Brittany), Mallory Schenker Rapp (Matthew) and Alex Schenker; 10 great-grandchildren, Garrett Sechler, Brayden Schenker, Hugh, Seth and Ethan Reynolds, Andrew and Isaac Sandrock, Harleigh, Logan and Delainey Rapp; and he was anticipating the arrival of two more great-grandchildren later this year; 12 nieces and nephews; and numerous relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, at Zion Lutheran Church, Prairie City, Mo., and will be officiated by the Revs. Michael Manz and Johannes Brann. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie City. Casketbearers are John Tippie, Scott Schenker, John Cragin II, William Cragin, George Cragin, Nolan Smith, and Alex Schenker. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Zion Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour Ministries, or Heartland Hospice.
