NEVC sets tax levy

Northeast Vernon County School district tax levy will remain the same as last year, $4.22 per $100 assessed valuation, as approved by the NEVC Board of Education at their meeting Thursday.
The board also unanimously voted to hire a part-time Spanish teacher and a part-time junior high math teacher.
In other business, the board unanimously accepted dairy, diesel, propane and pest control bids.
Superintendent Charles Naas told the board 229 students are enrolled at NEVC this year, the district participated in intruder training, and the tuck pointing, replacing bricks and mortar on the school, had been completed.
Naas said he is looking into applying for a grant from the Department of Natural Resources to partially fund a new school bus. "We would upgrade to a cleaner diesel engine," he said.
