Walker tax levy will remain the same as last year, 84 cents per $100 assessed valuation, as approved by the Walker Board of Aldermen at their tax levy hearing Thursday.

The aldermen also unanimously passed two ordinance amendments.

Ordinance 137 will require contractors to register with the city before working on water, sewer and electric lines. All repairs will be the responsibility of the property owner, and a city work order requires any requests to be submitted in writing to the mayor. The payment for work will be due in full on completion of work, unless the agreement states otherwise.

Ordinance 139 will prohibit four wheelers, ATVs, UTVs, golf carts and all other off-road vehicles on Walker streets and sidewalks. However, the ordinance will allow off-road vehicles under certain conditions. To operate the vehicle, owners must purchase a $5 city sticker each year. The sticker would be placed on the back, in clear view. The owner would have 30 days to display the sticker before a $25 fine is applied. Lights will have to be used from dusk to dawn. Riders will have to obey all traffic laws pertaining to licensed vehicles, and riding privileges can be revoked.

The alderman also approved appointing Vernon County as tax collector to be paid 5 percent of current and delinquent taxes with an optional add-on penalty of 7 percent on delinquent city taxes.

Mayor Robert Gier told the aldermen that the city will not purchase a different tractor for maintenance, the railroad tracks will be fixed by next week, and he will look into buying a new air conditioner for the Community Building.

"We missed the tractor by 10 minutes," he said.

Alderman Norman Radde was absent.
