There are lots of activities planned for this fall by the Nevada Parks and Recreation Department.

Signup is currently under way for youth flag football and will run through Sunday, Sept. 8.

This is open to children age 4 through the second grade. The cost will be $15 for pre-K and kindergarten and $20 for first and second grades. Games will start the week of Sept. 16 and run through Oct. 25. All age groups will play at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex.

Tentatively the Pre-K and kindergarten games will be on Tuesday; first and second grade games will be played on Thursday. However, the days played may change based on field availability.

Signup is also under way for youth soccer and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 8. This program is open to children age 3 through sixth grade.

The cost will be $15 for pre-school and $20 for kindergarten through sixth grade.

Games will begin the week of Sept. 16 and run through Oct. 2 at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex.

Pre-school soccer will be held at the community center on Wednesdays beginning Oct. 2, and run for four weeks. Children must be at least 3 years old and not yet in kindergarten. Shin guards are optional in the pre-school program only.

The kindergarten, and first and second grade games will be played on Wednesday. The third through sixth grade games will be played on Thursday.

An informational coaches meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the community center.

The Nevada Parks and Recreation Department is looking for adult coed softball teams for an adult coed slow-pitch softball fall league that will be forming soon. Games will be played on Monday evenings.

Team fees will be $275 and teams are guaranteed seven games. Interested teams should have fees paid by the Sept. 9 meeting.

The first organizational meeting is set for Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m., at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center. League format, game location, rule changes, practice reservation, etc., will be covered.

The season will start Sept. 16. For additional information call 417-448-5519.

Other activities currently under way at the community center include a chess club that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The club is open to players of all ages and skill levels. There will be lectures and lessons and competition play.

For those wanting a more vigorous activity, consider the Insanity workout that is held Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. by Brad Shull.
