Gearing up for the Schell City Fall Festival, the Schell City Board of Aldermen decided the citizen of the year award at its meeting Wednesday.

The aldermen also voted 4-0 to tell a resident to take his concerns about buses driving by his house and stirring up dirt to the school board.

"It's a complaint with the school, so it should be taken up with the school board members," Alderman Quentin Goodman said.

"The city can't tell the bus where to go," clerk Sharon Sanderson agreed. "How the bus does their route shouldn't be our concern."

Sanderson reported to the aldermen that although many leaks and hydrants haven't been fixed, preparations are underway to engage Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Vernon County as the city's water provider.

"We ordered a bunch of repair parts we have to have on hand," Sanderson said. "In a month we will be hooked up to the rural water, though we won't be under pressure yet. If our pumps go down, we can be fed."

The new water tower has been delivered and is in the process of being built. Sanderson said she is looking into companies to take down the old water tower.

In other business, the aldermen unanimously approved the minutes and paying the bills.
